Everyday Quality

Everyday Quality

The aim of the Everyday Quality (EDQ) project is to develop a practical, user-friendly measure of
family child care (FCC) quality that meaningfully captures quality in a home-based setting and
can be used to inform and support continuous quality improvement (CQI). Current quality
measures used in FCC are typically adapted from center-based settings and fail to address the
unique features and strengths of FCC.

The EDQ project builds on prior measurement work with the Family Child Care Early Childhood
Quality Improvement Pathway System (EQuIPS). The current project extends this work by using
the Transformativist Measurement Development Methodology to develop a technically rigorous
measure of FCC quality that centers the perspectives of FCC educators. Additionally, the project
will develop supporting CQI tools that are relevant, simple, and strengths-based to accompany
the EDQ.

The Everyday Quality (EDQ) project is a partnership between the University of
Alabama College of Education, the Alabama Department of Human Resources, Alabama Quality
STARS, and the University of Delaware funded by the Office of Planning, Research and
Evaluation at the Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services.
